Category and class terminology. European practice defines "Classes" (D, E, EA, F, FA) describing end-to-end channel performance, mapped to "Categories" (5e, 6, 6A, 7, 7A) describing cable and connecting hardware components — more rigorously distinguished than common American usage.
Practical UK design considerations. Permanent link and channel length limits are calculated differently between the standards, and test equipment must be configured for the correct standard (selectable TIA/ISO-IEC/EN test limit profiles). UK cable fire safety regulation (Construction Products Regulation, BS EN 50575, Euroclass Cca/Dca/Eca reaction-to-fire ratings) is a materially different regime from US plenum/riser (NEC/UL) ratings. UK data centre fit-outs often reference BS EN 50173-5 directly, aligned with but not identical to TIA-942's tiered approach.

Common mistakes
The most frequent issue is a cabling schedule copy-pasted from a US template specifying "Cat 6A plenum cable" without translation to the correct UK Euroclass requirement. A second common error is testing to the wrong standard profile, producing certificates that don't actually validate compliance.
