Where Autonomous Security Fits

Autonomous ground robots and drones are increasingly specified as a supplement to — not replacement for — fixed CCTV and manned guarding on large UAE sites: logistics parks, solar/utility installations, large perimeters where fixed camera coverage alone leaves gaps, and low-occupancy overnight periods where continuous human patrol is costly.

Ground Patrol Robots

Wheeled or tracked patrol robots typically carry their own camera, thermal imaging and often audio-challenge capability, following programmed or dynamic patrol routes. Design considerations specific to the UAE include surface heat tolerance for outdoor units during summer, dust ingress protection ratings, and charging dock placement that accounts for the operational duty cycle needed to cover a large perimeter.

Drone Perimeter Surveillance

Autonomous or semi-autonomous drones extend perimeter surveillance across large sites — solar farms, logistics campuses, industrial zones — where fixed camera coverage of every metre of a large perimeter isn't economical. UAE airspace regulations require registration and, depending on the emirate and site proximity to airports, coordination with relevant aviation authorities before any autonomous drone deployment is designed into a security scheme.

Integrating with Existing CCTV and Access Control

The design value of autonomous units comes from integration with the existing security ecosystem — feeding detections into the same VMS and access control platform the fixed CCTV uses, rather than operating as an isolated silo the control room has to monitor separately. ASDV specifies this integration requirement explicitly in the design brief rather than treating autonomous units as a bolt-on system.
