
Riyadh, Jeddah, and Eastern Province ambient temperatures regularly exceed 45°C in summer, and plant rooms and riser shafts can run hotter than ambient if not actively cooled — conditions beyond the temperature ranges most cabling manufacturers validate for standard-grade products.
Cable and pathway selection under heat load. Running cable through un-cooled risers can push conductors toward or beyond manufacturer-rated operating temperatures. Our practice is to specify extended-temperature-rated cabling for any non-conditioned pathway, and push mechanical coordination early for riser ventilation.
Riser and backbone strategy for mixed-use towers. Saudi mixed-use developments — retail podiums, office floors, residential/hospitality towers — create complex backbone requirements. We design backbone cabling with generous spare capacity and physically separated pathways per use-type, since retrofitting into a fully occupied tower is disruptive and expensive.
Telecom operator coordination. STC, Mobily and Zain mean multi-operator entry rooms need to plan for multiple carriers from the start, coordinating with CST requirements around infrastructure sharing.
Fire-rated and life-safety cabling coordination. Cable pathways penetrating SBC 801 fire-rated shafts need civil-defense-acceptable firestopping, and cabling supporting PAVA/fire alarm networking needs fire-rated specification.
Data centre and technology room siting. We recommend avoiding rooftop or top-floor placement given the highest heat load at those locations.

Common mistakes
The most frequent mistake is specifying cabling directly from an international template without extended-temperature-rated components in unconditioned spaces. A second is undersizing backbone spare capacity in mixed-use towers.
