BIM for UK Construction — ISO 19650 & UK BIM Framework

The United Kingdom pioneered BIM in construction — the Government Construction Strategy (2011) mandated BIM Level 2 on all centrally procured public-sector projects from 2016. This evolved into the UK BIM Framework, aligned to ISO 19650 (the international BIM information management standard that originated from the UK's PAS 1192 series). Today, ISO 19650 Parts 1 and 2 govern BIM information management for UK projects, with guidance from the UK BIM Alliance and the UKBIM Alliance's Information Protocol. ISO 19650 BIM Deliverables for UK Projects

ASDV produces all BIM deliverables required under ISO 19650 for UK ELV and ICT design scope:

• BIM Execution Plan (BEP) — pre-contract and post-contract, aligned to ISO 19650-2 and UK BIM Framework templates
• Revit MEP models — ELV and ICT services at LOD 200 (concept), 300 (coordinated) and 400 (construction)
• Navisworks clash detection — federated model clash reports with status tracking (new/active/resolved)
• IFC export — IFC 2x3 or IFC 4 for open-BIM workflows
• COBie data drop — COBie UK 2012-format asset data for FM handover
• Common Data Environment — working within your project CDE (Autodesk Construction Cloud, Aconex, BIM 360 or SharePoint)

UK BIM Framework — What It Requires

The UK BIM Framework aligns ISO 19650 to UK practice through the UKBIM Alliance's guidance documents. Key requirements include the Employer's Information Requirements (EIR), the BIM Execution Plan (BEP), a defined Common Data Environment (CDE) and documented information delivery milestones aligned to RIBA Plan of Work stages (0–7). ASDV produces BEPs and models that are explicitly aligned to RIBA stages and the UK Government Soft Landings (GSL) framework where required.
