Automatic Door
System Design
Automatic door system design for commercial, hospitality, healthcare and high-security buildings — sliding, swing, revolving, speed gate and turnstile design with access control integration and BS EN 16005 safety compliance.
What We Offer
Automatic door systems are the physical interface between building security and occupant convenience. The right automatic door solution improves pedestrian flow, enforces access control, reduces energy loss through vestibules and creates a professional building entrance experience. ASDV Consultant designs automatic door systems for all building types and security requirements.
Our designs cover the full range of automatic door technologies: sliding doors (single/bi-parting) for retail, hospitals and lobbies; swing doors for accessible entrances; revolving doors and automatic revolving doors for high-traffic energy-efficient entrances; speed gates and optical turnstiles for office buildings requiring secure pedestrian access control; full-height turnstiles for high-security and industrial sites; and mantrap/airlock portals for data centres and critical facilities.
Every automatic door design integrates with the building's access control system — defining credential readers, intercom interfaces, door controller connections and fire alarm release modes. We design to BS EN 16005 (pedestrian power operated door sets) for safety and ISO 21542 for accessibility.

Frequently Asked Questions
Commercial offices typically use: automatic sliding doors for main lobbies (high traffic, good energy performance), speed gates or optical turnstiles for controlled access between lobby and office floors (medium security, high flow rate), and swing doors with low-energy automatic openers for accessible entrances and internal fire doors. High-security offices may use mantrap portals at server room or data centre entries.
A speed gate uses retractable glass or acrylic wings that swing open rapidly when authorised credentials are presented — allowing passage in under 0.5 seconds and handling 30–40 people per minute. Speed gates are designed for office lobbies requiring controlled access with a prestigious appearance. Full-height turnstiles use rotating arms that allow only one person per credential presentation and provide physical anti-tailgating protection — used in higher security or industrial environments.
Automatic doors on evacuation routes must fail-safe (fail-open) on fire alarm activation to ensure free egress. Magnetically held-open fire doors must fail-closed (fail-secure) to contain fire and smoke spread. The design defines each door's fail mode based on its position on an evacuation route and its fire door/smoke door designation. These interfaces are documented in the fire alarm Cause & Effect matrix.
